"I put this fireplace in myself," remarked Captain Jim. "The Government don't give lighthouse keepers such luxuries. Look at the colors that wood makes. If you'd like some driftwood for your fire, Mistress Blythe, I'll bring you up a load some day. Sit down. I'm going to make you a cup of tea."
Clang and clang battle(trial version)
Apple has delayed the arrival of the "app thinning" feature of iOS 9. But it has reasons. It's not just messing about.

We detailed what app thinning is and how it benefits you back in June this year. In short, it means developers can make the file sizes of their apps smaller.

That means they won't take up as much room on your phone or tablet. Happy days.

So, why the delay? Apple explained all in a post on its developer pages:

"App slicing is currently unavailable for iOS 9 apps due to an issue affecting iCloud backups created from iOS 9 where some apps from the App Store would only restore to the same model of iOS device."

Now you know. But all you really need to know for now is that, yes, app thinning isn't benefiting you right now. But it'll roll out to the public versions of iOS 9 soon, and then it will.

For now you can dream about what are you going to do with that extra space. What games will you grab?
9to5mac
Must for your victory us all congest,

You can definitely file this one in the good news / bad news section. The good news is that the long-awaited, mobile-exclusive action RPG set in one of the most famous fantasy settings in gaming, The Elder Scrolls: Blades, is now available for Android, iPhone, and iPad.

The bad news is that it isn't really. Right now there are pages on both the App Store and the Google Play Store where you can, if you have a compatible device, download the client for the game. But if you want to actually play it, you're going to have to wait for an invitation to the early access program that's running right now. It's a soft launch, kindaReally then this is an invitation-only soft launch. You can download the game, poke at the screen for a bit, but then you're going to be met with a log-in screen. From there you'll need to add in your Bethesda account. If you've not received an invitation to the Early Access event on that account, then that's pretty much as far as you're going to get.

However we have been able to dig a few little morsels of information out of the slightly revamped store page. For one thing we can see that IAPs in the game are going to get you gems. Prices for them range from £1.99 up to £99.99. There's also something called a Starter Pack available for £4.99, which we're gonna guess gets you some gems and some equipment if you buy it when you first start the game.

It's also looking like some multiplayer components of the game - The Arena specifically - aren't going to be available until after the initial launch of the game.
The 25 best multiplayer games for iPhone and iPad
In a way that's a good thing, because it means we might get to see the game earlier than we would have otherwise. It's also a bit sucky though, because we won't be getting the full experience on day one.

Here's all the blurb from the App Store page as well, so you can have a quick peruse of it -
From Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Skyrim, comes The Elder Scrolls: Blades – a classic dungeon crawler reimagined. The Blades, the Empire’s top agents, are forced into exile. On the run, you return to your hometown to find it destroyed.KEY FEATURES:QUEST and Experience stunning dungeon adventures.CREATE and customize your city, restoring it to greatness.CONQUER your friends and rivals in epic one-on-one Arena battles.*CREATE any character you want and discover unique weapons, armor, and abilities.MASTER the never-ending Abyss with a cutting-edge combat system.*NOTE: Arena modes will be added after the initial launch of The Elder Scrolls: Blades.
You can click here to go and register for the early access event. And, of course, we'll let you know as soon as the game is available world wide.

There seems to be a decent amount of discontent among people who've seen that the game's live, downloaded it, and then been faced with needing an invite they don't have to get to play. What do you think? Has Bethesda handled this a little weird, could it have done things differently? Let us know in the comments below.

Adventure Xpress is a match-three puzzle game from Adult Swim and PikPok. It's just hit the App Store in New Zealand, which means it should be out in the UK at midnight tonight.

Rather than your usual story of adventurers and exploration, here you're playing an intrepid delivery person, making sure a cartoon-y fantasy kingdom gets its mail delivered on time.

Obviously villains try and stop you at every turn, and you need to whomp their faces off by matching runes together in a slidey-puzzling scrap.

There are boosts and bonuses, spells and achievements, and all the accoutrements you'd expect from a free to play tappy matchy smashy game.

What there doesn't seem to be is an energy system. I've played the game for a good half an hour and not once has it barked at me to fill up my post-delivery meter or any such nonsense.

Sure there are currencies, but they seem locked to the RPG-style progress. You can use some of the stamps you collect or buy to get earlier access to the best equipment for example.

It'll be interesting to see how the game develops after a bit more play, and you should definitely keep an eye on PG for our review in the next couple of days.

Either way, the game should be popping up on the UK App Store at midnight tonight. And if you're desperate for another fantasy-themed match three head-scratcher, it could be right up your street.

Between Imbroglio, Corrypt, Helix, and others, Michael Brough's weird and deceptively deep games have offered some of the most unique experiences on the App Store. Now one of his popular titles, the low-fi roguelike 868-Hack is getting a major content update in July.

868-Hack can seem obtuse or even basic at a glance, but its smiley face-versus-relentless enemies gameplay proved to be surprisingly complex, earning a Silver Award for its hidden gameplay intricacies and addictive score chasing.

The expansion will introduce new "progs" and powerups to the game, among other additions, allowing for new strategies to learn and abilities to master.

868-Hack can be found on iPad, iPhone, and Steam, and the expansion will be available on both platforms.
"Our latch-string will always be out for you," promised Anne. "And do you know that the old sea captain who keeps the Four Winds light knew John Selwyn and his bride well in his boyhood? He told me their story the night I came here--the third bride of the old house."
